TikTok is once again innovating with the launch this summer of Sound Search. This new feature, which allows users to discover songs by humming or singing directly within the app, comes in response to YouTube’s similar “Hum to Search” feature, introduced this year.
What sets Sound Search apart from other music recognition tools such as Shazam and YouTube Music is its direct integration into the TikTok ecosystem: the feature identifies songs based on simple sounds or melodies, and also immediately suggests TikTok videos associated with the identified song.
Given the importance of music on TikTok, it’s no surprise that the platform is rolling out a new feature to further enhance music discovery while competing with giants like Shazam and YouTube Music. With each new feature launched, TikTok consolidates its position as a key player in the music industry.
While this new tool is still in the testing phase for a sample of users, it is not yet known when TikTok plans to offer this functionality to everyone.
