YouTube is updating its Shorts format!

Since October 15, YouTube Shorts has rolled out a significant update: the maximum video length has increased from 60 seconds to 3 minutes. This change aligns with a broader trend we’re seeing with other short-form content, like Instagram Reels, which recently limited their length to 3 minutes (though Instagram had previously allowed up to 10 minutes).

So, what do these changes mean, and how can you take advantage of them?

The ability to create 3-minute videos on YouTube Shorts opens the door to greater creativity. This extended duration now allows users to explore more in-depth formats—use this extra time to give a richer glimpse into your music universe.

In addition to longer video durations, YouTube Shorts has introduced a “templates” feature, making it easier for users to create videos by following popular formats or replicating established trends. For artists, this simplifies the creation of content that taps into viral trends while seamlessly incorporating their own music.

YouTube is also making it easier to convert longer videos into Shorts clips. This could encourage artists to repurpose key moments from their existing content (music videos, interviews, etc.) to make them more engaging and accessible for the Shorts audience.

Lastly, a major new update is the introduction of a “Shorts Trends” section on the mobile app. This feature allows you to track viral videos in different countries, offering a unique opportunity to quickly identify local trends and adapt your content strategies accordingly.
